This substance is obtained from the seeds of the Mexican Cactus (Opuntia Ficus Indica), a succulent typical of the desert. Its therapeutic properties were already known by Native Americans, who used it to prepare preserves and drinks to treat different illnesses or during propitiatory rites.

Mexican Cactus extract is able to trap the water from the deepest layers and to store it into the tissues: this is possible thanks to the presence of mucilaginous substances rich in galacturonic acid.
